About

J.Oliver Irons DVM

Oliver considers himself very fortunate to spend his childhood, adolescence, and early business experience in agriculture, specifically in the cattle industry. He also gained experiences with multiple species as he showed cattle, sheep, swine, and goats as an active 4-H participant.   After receiving a B.S. degree in Animal Science and Business from Virginia Tech, Oliver transitioned into a managing partner in the family operated cattle business.  Oliver integrated an embryo contract business of raising cattle for purebred farms across the east coast; along with becoming active in brokering live cattle among multiple regions across the country for their own use as well as collaborative effort for export trade.  With a desire for superior goals, Oliver decided veterinary medicine was the most relevant field of graduate education to create a more accomplished resume for his future.   Oliver spent the next four years receiving a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in Alabama.  During his veterinary education, Oliver took advantage of multiple roles and opportunities through numerous organizations including the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, International Livestock Congress-USA and Canada, American Embryo Transfer Association, and Alpha Psi Professional Veterinary Fraternity.  In addition, Oliver embraced multiple opportunities beyond the classroom to further explore different segments of the cattle industry:  USDA-Cornell-Plum Island Smith-Kilborne Foreign Animal Disease program, feedlot medicine, Cornell’s Summer Dairy Institute, and spending two months in the bovine export business embarking with a shipment of bovines to Russia.
